After much, MUCH ado, Blink 182 has confirmed 2011 as the year of their highly anticipated new album.

According to MTV.com, drummer Travis Barker said, “We are in rehearsals — what will soon be production rehearsals — for our European tour, and that’s exciting,” he said. “[The new record] is gonna be [out] next year.”

Will 2010 be the year for Blink-182?

Blink-182 has been on an “indefinite hiatus” since 2005 and a last release in 2003.  There has been chatter a new album will drop some time in 2010.

At the 2009 Grammys, the trio announced they have been working in the studio on new material since December 2008.  The band has made a point to keep talk to a minimum about the details of the album.  In a statement to MTV, guitarist Tom DeLonge said the album is “the most ambitious songwriting and art that we’ve ever made.”

The album remains untitled and no tracklist has been leaked.  The official release date has yet to be set.  Speculation still remains as band members DeLonge and Hoppus’ opposite exchange of words leaves fans in a daze.  DeLonge reported to MTV that the goal was 2011.  Bandmate Mark Hoppus tweeted that 2011 was “too far away,” and promised Blink-182’s fanbase he would “do all I can to have a Blink-182 album in 2010.”

This is simple guys.  If you are in fact working on an album,  be realistic about when it will be completely finished.  If this back and forth nonsense continues, where does that leave the fans?   It leaves them frustrated and they might not be interested in the new album when it finally is a physical reality!

Keep checking back for more Blink-182 news.

Barker makes a meaningful donation

Recently-reunited rockers Blink-182 have pledged a $100,000 donation to the two burn centers that treated drummer Travis Barker after his serious plane crash last year - the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Georgia and the Grossman Burn Center in California.

After the recent accidental death of DJ “AM” Goldstein, Barker has been left as the sole survivor of the accident.

To say thank you for all of the support, Barker, Mark Hoppus and Tom Delong have announced they would donate all proceeds from their late September show to the centers.

Blink-182 mourns over DJ AM’s death

Travis Barker and the rest of the gang from Blink-182 expressed their sorrow about the loss of Barker’s longtime friend DJ AM.

“This night is really hard for us on stage. We lost a dear friend yesterday. His name was Adam Goldstein. You probably know him as DJ AM. He was an innovator and a genius and he loved music more than anything else. Above all he was a dear friend,” said bassist Mark Hoppus.

During the concert, the band asked for a moment of silence from the audience. As the lights dimmed, audience members raised their lighters and the group began to cry.

DJ AM, 36, was found dead in his apartment on Aug. 28. His real name was Adam Goldstein.

On tour with new production designer

On July 23, Blink-182 are reuniting for a huge summer tour and will be performing in Las Vegas for the first time in five years.

Bassist Mark Hoppus said that Blink-182 has been working with production designer Martin Phillips, who has also worked with Kanye West, Nine Inch Nails and Daft Punk.

“We can’t wait,” said Hoppus. “It’s a strange feeling to have, after not touring with Blink for the past five years, to think that in just a few days, we’ll be hitting the road and playing all of these sold-out shows. And Martin’s production is just ridiculous. All of our techs have been down there to see the stage set up, and they’re e-mailing me, going, ‘Oh my God, there are so many speakers, just so many lights.’ I haven’t seen it myself, but the pictures I’ve seen look ridiculous. Everything kind of moves and joins and separates to make these huge video screens, so it’s pretty complicated.”

Blink-182’s Hoppus Remembers Michael Jackson

Blink’s Mark Hoppus reacted to the news of Michael Jackson’s death on June 25, 2009, with fond memories of the King of Pop.

He’s been reported as saying, “The first album I ever bought with my own money was Thriller. His performance at the Grammys is a milestone in the history of American music. I watched it on TV and spent the next two weeks in my kitchen trying to learn how to moonwalk.”

Clearly Michael Jackson’s influence on musicians crosses all borders of musical tastes and styles, and we’ll surely hear more tributes to his genius in the coming days.
